Planiglobe—Creative Commons maps

January 12th, 2006 · No Comments

I’ve found my new favourite web application. Planiglobe is the creation of a company in Germany. It allows you to make and label a map then download it in Postscript or Illustrator 7 format (complete with layers!) An admin panel allows you turn certain layers (like province names, country borders, cities etc.) on or off before export. A printable version is also available. There are a few disclaimers about using the maps for navigational purposes but other than that—use is free and licensed Creative Commons Attribution 2.5.

I used it last week to make animal habitat maps for the EcoKids.ca field guide and the Illustrator files worked like a dream.
