There’s been a series of bombings in the Thai capital. There’s little news or footage at this point but it seems one of the bombs exploded in the mall across the street from the building we lived in just last month.
The mall is attached to the Victory Monument BTS (skytrain) station and is always packed as it includes local restaurants, fast food, banks, an 8 screen cineplex, some language schools and a supermarket. The base of the mall also hosts an outdoor extension with vendors setting up every morning to sell fruit, noodles and cheap clothing. Next to the parking lot, there’s also an informal pickup spot for communters catching neighbourhood mini-bus/car-pool transport to Bangkok’s sprawling suburbs. And the huge Victory momument roundabout itself is the downtown transport hub for bus traffic from all over the city with tens of thousands of people transferring to and from busses or the BTS station upstairs every day.
Amazing then that so far it seems there are only two dead and 25 wounded. Some basic video footage and preliminary news are available for the moment on France 24 (in English.)
Such as sad thing for Bangkok.
